The Chetola Experience

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. We started off with a tour of their facility, where they showed us their original structure, the main house with original hardwood flooring and hearth fireplace, which has since been turned into a restaurant and bar.

After this, we were lead to some of their antique Coca-Cola memorabilia and showed their meeting rooms that they have for visiting business parties. After the tour was over, we met with Bryan Moore, Chetola’s Director of Marketing, Meetings & Events. Bryan walked us through Chetola’s online presence and social media campaign.

The resort has recently revamped their campaign, assembling a team of young employees from around their staff to be the brain trust of the operation. They have moved away from trying to ‘sell’ their followership on visiting Chetola, and have committed to making posts that tug at the heart of their audience.

Examples include posting pictures of their lake and the geese that reside on their property, screenshots of the week’s weather forecast and the trolley that stops in front of their main entrance. Their main presence is on Facebook, and their hope is to drive more traffic to their website through Facebook. This is to increase the number of guest reservations that they receive.

After meeting with Brian, our group had a relaxing afternoon in the bar in front of the windows, sipping mimosas and living the good life that Chetola has to offer.
